Robert J. Hill Jr. (Rob) is a USPTO Registered Patent Agent and founder of Hill Patent Consulting LLC. He retired from the United States Patent and Trademark Office in January 2026 after more than 42 years of service, including over 31 years in patent quality assurance roles. During his career, he reviewed more than 5,300 Office actions, participated in approximately 1,000 appeal and pre-appeal conferences, and consulted on more than 1,900 patent examination matters.

Rob's practice focuses on Office action analysis, patentability assessments, prosecution strategy, examiner interview preparation, and appeal and pre-appeal review. He is particularly interested in helping inventors and practitioners evaluate complex issues involving 35 U.S.C. §§ 101, 102, 103, and 112 and identify strengths and weaknesses in examiner reasoning.
