About

Julie King is a registered patent attorney and principal of King Patent Law, PLLC, a boutique intellectual property firm serving clients nationwide. With over 25 years of experience as a licensed attorney, including five years as a registered patent attorney, Julie combines deep technical expertise in computer science, business, and physics with practical business acumen as a solo practitioner who understands firsthand the challenges entrepreneurs face.

Julie's patent practice focuses on consumer products, software innovations, mechanical systems, and business methods. Her technical fluency, reinforced by a master's degree in computer science with a focus on artificial intelligence, enables her to translate complex innovations from embedded systems and algorithms to industrial machinery into enforceable patent claims. She handles the full spectrum of USPTO proceedings, including office action responses, continuation practice, and portfolio strategy for growing companies.

Beyond prosecution work, Julie counsels entrepreneurs and established businesses on trademark clearance and enforcement, copyright strategy, trade secret protection, and IP licensing. For clients in Illinois and Georgia, she also provides business formation and transactional support, integrating IP considerations into entity structure, operating agreements, and exit planning.

Julie's career spans practice in Chicago (consulting practice in reinsurance and superfund analysis), Atlanta (Alston + Bird, securities litigation), and Knoxville (business transactions and creditor-side bankruptcy) before establishing her firm in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois in 2014. She is a 1999 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law and holds bar admissions in Illinois and Georgia state courts, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of Georgia and the Eastern District of Tennessee.
